Playhouse gallapalozaJuly 2013: Playhouse Galapalooza:

The Chester Playhouse recently held the Galapalooza fund raiser and one of the Auction items this year was a day sail and picnic on the 38 foot C Class sloop The Ripple.  This boat is owned by Sir Christopher Ondaatje, who is also the patron of the Chester Playhouse. The auction item was purchased by Teri Springer, and she with 5 friends will enjoy a day sailing  Mahone Bay on this classic yacht with Skipper Jimmy Rafuse.

Nicola and SonJuly 3, 2013 "In celebration of his life"

Seems the whole population of Chester gathered at the Fo'c'sle Tavern to tell stories and toast John Mason Lee Sweet, 1941 - 2013. Here Nicola and son, Jeremy, listen to one of the toasts. Oysters, Lee's favorite, kept coming along with other delicacies, washed down with lots of wine and beer from the bar. We celebrated a dear friend's life in style and good cheer!

More pictures of the party will be posted in the 2013 Photo Gallery.

3 Old BoatsAug 7, 2013, Virginia's 100th:

Virginia's 100th birthday was held at Gold River Marina. The event was ably organized by Cindy Bradette of the GRM staff. John Wurts made the birthday toast followed by a tribute given by Horton Redhage. Participants enjoyed a splendid layout of finger foods and glass of wine or beer. Fiddle tunes mixed with a little classic rock were provided by Paul & Eilidh Buchanan. If you want to hear more, they often appear at the Mug & Anchor in Mahone Bay. Hayseed IV and Seneca joined the raft of centenarians. What a beautiful sight!

Virginia
Aug 7, 2013 They did it again

Under the Gold River Marina banner,  a fabulous sailing adventure aboard Virginia, was auctioned off to help raise funds for the Chester Art Centre. Keith Fox provided the lucky winning bid.   Virginia, skippered by John Wurts, lives at Gold River Marina when she is not gracing the waters of Chandler's Cove.

CupAug 15 2013, Chester Classic Fleet Party:

The CCF party, held at Rick Thompson's house, was a great success. Rum, beer and fine wine accompanied by a variety of finger foods and pest sandwiches were served to the happy crowd, including Roxy, the fox, who  munched out on Ricks best meat balls. (see "2013 gallery")

Rick Thompson received the Sir Christopher Ondaatje Classic Cup for best in series form Topher Wurts. In his speech, Topher honored those no longer with us with with a moving poem by an anonymous poet.

The Chester Yacht Club donated drinking glasses to first, second, and third place winners.

John CurrryAugust 17 2013 Chester Race Week Ends:

John Curry makes closing remarks giving credit to the sponsors and volunteers who work so hard to make Race Week a success. John ably chaired  the Race Week Committee for several years. He has indicated that he will pass his position on at the end of this year. You did great work at this thankless job John and we wish you "fair winds and following seas" in your future en devours.

Eclipse also won a prize.  She also has a multi generational crew.  I believe Danny's sons Travis and Forbs were aboard.

Jimmy Rafuse and crew accept their prize for over-all winner at Chester Race Week. If I am not mistaken the youngster at his right is Jimmie's grand son, and if you look hard peeking out from the background, is Danny Bond's son.

Hors deuvresAugust 23, 2013 Hors oeuvres at CYC hosted by Bluenose, Classic, and IOD Fleets:

Judging by the early disappearance of the copious number of snacks supplied by its attendants, this event was a tremendous success; well attended by all three fleets. In center Sandy Morash who is chief administrator of both the Bluenose and Classic Fleets appears very happy with the party.

LunchAugust 31, Martins River Fun Race hosted by Chip Dickison. Luncheon hosted by Brian and Ann Palfreyman:
A total of 32 boats raced on one of the prettyest days of the summer - Blue skys, sparkling seas, and moderate winds.
Classic Fleet members in attendance for the long race were: Seneca     1st
                                                                                              Aileen      3rd
                                                                                              Ghost       9th
                                                                                              Virginia   12th
                                                                                              Rondo     16th
There were a bunch of small classic boats in the short race which are not members of the Classic Fleet. Might be a great idea to have a short course as part of the Classic Series and Race Week to encourage them to attend.

October 5, 2013 Turkey Bowl: Unfortunately we will not be in Chester for the Turkey Bowl. We hope someone will document the event. (A picture, the name and position of the first classic boat,  and a short write up of the event would be dandy.) The only Classic boat to compete was Ceilidh. She finished 7th.
